A three-day training programme on “Capacity Building through Food Processing for Rural Youths” was conducted by ICAR-KVK Dimapur from August 20 to 22 at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre.
Held under the guidance of Senior Scientist and Head, Dr. Phool Kumari, the programme aimed to equip rural youths with practical skills in food processing to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship in the state.
Course Coordinator, Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu, led hands-on sessions on processing locally available fruits and crops such as pineapple, jackfruit, soybean, and banana. Participants were trained in the scientific preparation of RTS beverages, jams, chips, papad, soymilk, and tofu. Emphasis was laid on reducing post-harvest losses and utilizing local resources for enterprise development.
Dr. Bendangla Imsong, SMS/CTO (Plant Breeding), highlighted the role of food processing in enhancing economic resilience and also conducted a session on entrepreneurship through seed production.
The training also covered branding, marketing strategies, and FSSAI registration procedures. A total of 16 rural youths participated in the programme.
