KVK Kohima conducts training for farmers

A one-day training program on skill upgrade for farmers was conducted at Community Hall Phenwhenyu village on April 26. 

A press release from KVK Kohima, senior scientist and head, Dr. Akashe Zhimomi stated that Zhiete ACTO (soil conservation) spoke on the importance of soil health, where he emphasized on the urgency for every farmer to have their soil tested and maintain proper soil health records. He also mentioned the benefits of soil health cards.  Avenues for income generating activities were discussed by Longma Yanger, ACTO (agri. extension), where he encouraged farmers to allot one hour a day to activities which could help bring additional revenue to help in home expenses. 

Dr. Temjennungsang, ACTO (animal science), also spoke on the topic “Alternative to conventional feeding in pigs” where he stressed on silage feeding in pig and hydrophonic fodder production. He also demonstrated the preparation of silage with locally available fodder generally fed to pigs. Altogether 26 participants attended the training program.
