Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung organized two training sessions on vermicomposting for women from Marep colony and farmers from Aliba village on July 23 and August 21, respectively. The events were held under the aegis of the Women Ministry as part of the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP), focusing on the sustainable use of agricultural waste through vermicomposting.
According to a press release by KVK mokokchung, the training sessions aimed to provide technical guidance on the process of vermicomposting using worms, covering essential aspects such as the setup and maintenance of vermi-units, the harvesting process, and the overall benefits of vermicomposting. The participants were also educated on the superior nutrient content of vermicompost compared to traditional compost, emphasizing its importance in enhancing soil fertility for better crop production. As part of the program, KVK Mokokchung distributed HDPE vermi beds and worms to all participants, enabling them to establish their own vermiculture units at home and integrate the organic composting process into their farming practices.
