A one-day exhibition cum farmers’ scientist interaction was organized by KVK Dimapur in collaboration with ATMA Dimapur at ICAR Research Complex for NE region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, Medziphema, on March 28 with Director NRC Mithun Dr. A Mitra as the chief guest and the Director of Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Dr. Lallan Ram as the guest of honour.
Highlights of the programme included farm visit to different demonstration units such Dairy, Poultry, Piggery and Rabbit units. Rearing of birds and animals were briefed to participants. Farmers also visited the research farm of the center.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. A Mitra called upon the farmers to follow Integrated Farming System (IFS) for sustainable production in the context of climate change, while Dr. Lallan Ram asked the farmers to select and adopt technology available with CIH/ SASRD/ ICAR/ NRC-M according to the suitability.
Joint Director, Dr. Bidyut C Deka, advised the farmers to cultivate medium duration improved varieties of paddy of ICAR Complex (RCM-9, RCM-11) which could be followed by mustard/ toria or linseed followed by green gram as spring crop in the same field. He also encouraged the farmers to rear the dual purpose bird, Vanaraja, which is available at ICAR Nagaland Centre for better production as compared to local birds.
Chairman Dr. AK Tripathi told the farmers to increase the cropping intensity by cultivating another crop after paddy in TRC areas, while the General Manager NABARD, V Chelladurai, asked the farmers to avail the credit facility through Kisan Credit Card.
During farmers scientist interaction session, farmers posed different problems on attacked of Stem borer in wheat, damping of in Cabbage, Stem borer problem in Paddy, fruit fall in areca nut, diseases and lice problem in poultry.
Different technologies like low cost rain water harvesting, High yielding varieties of paddy and maize, value addition in jackfruit, pineapple and turmeric, backyard farming of poultry, piggery and rabbit, banana fibre products avenues for additional income, crop diversification, amelioration of acid soils etc. were also displayed at KVK stalls. A total of 138 participants attended the programme.
