
A two-day Farmers’ Exposure Tour was conducted under National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) on March 28 and 29.
Altogether 15 progressive livestock farmers from Thipuzumi, Rikuzumi and Phusachadu villages of Phek District participated in the programme. The farmers were led by Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Phek Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) Dr. Debojyoti Borkotoky.
The farmers visited various livestock units of ICAR Research Complex for NEHR, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema.
The farmers were given demonstrations on Artificial Insemination (AI) of pigs for better production and income. The farmers also visited the poultry farms, hatchery unit and witnessed the livestock waste management system in the farm. The farmers also visited intensive Mithun farms under ICAR –NRC on Mithun, Medziphema.
The participants also took a trip to the Dimapur District Milk Producers Union (DIMUL) Ltd., Dimapur and learned about the cooperative model. Er. Meyieu Mero, Manager (P&QC) Dimul gave the farmers a tour though the milk plant and explained hygienic milk production and value addition. Dr. Mhasizokho, CEO, DIMUL Dimapur encouraged the farmers to adopt the cooperative model in livestock and high value crops that contributes towards socio-economic development, particularly their impact on poverty reduction, job creation, and social integration. The farmers, on their part, expressed their gratitude to director ICAR-NRC on Mithun and Sr. Scientist & Head KVK-Phek for bringing them the opportunity to witness the scientific, advanced and farmer oriented technologies in livestock production.
