Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) organised a thanksgiving and felicitation programme on Sunday at Thevokemouzie, Kohima Village, in honour of the winners of the 30th Nagaland Wrestling Championship 2026.
Champion Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü, runnersup Menuosetuo Yiese, and Vizakietuo Suohu of the Angami Sports Association (ASA) contingent were recognised for their achievements.
Speaking at the programme, Er. Medozhazo Rutsa recalled that the first Kohima Village Wrestling Meet was held at the same ground in 1944. He noted that after 82 years, members of Kohima Village had secured the top two positions in an NWA meet for the first time. Rutsa lauded the wrestlers for their discipline and conduct, adding that their success had brought honour to the village and stood as a tribute to the vision of its leaders and forefathers.
The wrestlers were felicitated with bouquets and the traditional Angami shawl Lohe. A thanksgiving prayer was offered by Kevidzenyü Mere, assistant professor at Shalom Bible Seminary.
Earlier, KVYO members escorted the wrestlers from Kigwema village, where the ASA contingent had camped ahead of the championship. In a note, KVYO congratulated Pienyü, son of late Thepfusanyü Pienyü, for defending his title, and Yiese, son of late Khrielatuo Yiese, for securing the runner-up position.
KVYO expressed pride that both the champion and runner-up hailed from Kohima Village, describing the achievement as rare and remarkable, reflective of the community’s strong wrestling tradition. The organisation wished the wrestlers continued success in their future endeavours.
