KVYO opposes market monopoly, ‘unauthorised’ reserved parking

DIMAPUR, JUN 6 (NPN)

Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) on Friday affirmed its strong opposition to any form of market monopolisation within the municipal administrative area of Kohima and cautioned individual or organisation against promoting it.
In a press release, KVYO president Er. Medozhazo Rutsa and general secretary Neikehetuo Kire asserted that monopolisation of the market undermined fair competition and adversely affected local businesses and consumers. The youth body maintained that such practice perpetuated a syndicate system that restricted access and opportunities for many, particularly for small-scale vendors and entrepreneurs who play a vital role in community’s economy.
Reiterating its stand against such practices, KVYO affirmed to continue to advocate for a marketplace that was open, competitive, and equitable for all. “We believe that a diverse marketplace not only benefits the economy but also fosters community spirit and resilience,” KVYO said.
In this regard, KVYO has urged the business community to ensure fair trade practices. It warned against any exploitation that could arise from this system.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of both consumers and traders while maintaining a fair and competitive market environment.
Meanwhile, KVYO has also expressed deep concern over the growing trend of “unauthorised” ‘reserved parking’ signage placed by shop owners in front of their business establishment in and around public and market areas. The youth body said that such actions not only violated public space usage norms but also restricted equal access to parking facilities.
KVYO has reminded all concerned that public roads and parking areas were not private property. “Any form of unauthorised demarcation, signage, or obstruction will be viewed seriously,” the organisation cautioned.
