Labour Commissioner informs on deregistration of trade unions

DIMAPUR: The Labour Commissioner of Nagaland has issued a notification informing the public that several registered trade unions under Section 8 of the Trade Unions Act, 1926 have been found to be defaulting or non-functional. As a result, they are liable for deregistration by the Registrar of Trade Unions.
According to a DIPR report, the unions listed in the notification include Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union, Dimapur Auto Rickshaw Owners Union, Dimapur Land Transport Workers Union, East Dimapur Purana Bazaar Labour Trade Union, Dimapur Taxi Drivers Union, Dimapur Cycle Rickshaw Pullers Union, Dimapur Truck Drivers Union, and Kohima District Land Transport Trade Union, Phesama.
The department has directed these defaulting unions to explain why the Registrar should not initiate deregistration proceedings under Section 10 of the Trade Unions Act, 1926. Any union intending to resume its activities and avoid cancellation must submit a formal intimation to the Registrar within 30 days from the date of issue of the notification. Failure to respond within the stipulated period will result in the initiation of necessary proceedings for cancellation of registration as per the relevant provisions of the Trade Unions Act and Rules.
