Lack of opportunity is self made: Governor

Nagaland Governor P.B Acharya said lack of opportunity was “a self made thing” while referring to the educationally empowered and unemployed youths whom he called upon to make use of the “rich land” with mineral resources to usher in development of the state on all fronts.
Speaking as chief guest at the 39th Khaghaboto Area Students’ Union (KASTU) General conference-cum-workshop at Kiyelho Village Saturday, the Governor lamented that educationally and economically there was deficit, politically there was turmoil and morally corruption has taken roots.
He rued that “somewhere something is wrong” and urged upon students to take the torch and march ahead. The Governor expressed dismay over 68% proxy teachers in Nagaland and also teachers who were drawing salaries without attending classes and said “the moral corruption was too much”.
Acharya maintained “we need not go to Delhi for funds. God has given us everything” and encouraged the youths to seek greater opportunity, to develop commerce and trade and to pick up the opportunity of look east policy adding “Nagaland is rich but Nagas are poor”.
Lamenting on the quality of education, the Governor, urged the students to identify “what is wrong in our education system?”
He said it was an irony that despite having several hundred schools and colleges and a central university, many were “forced to go out” for pursuing higher education outside in metro cities.
Governor Acharya expressed happiness that the KASTU provided a platform for him to interact with the “real face of Nagaland”.
Earlier, delivering greetings to the gathering, Rajya Sabha MP H. Khekiho Zhimomi said as an MP of the NDA, the central government’s approach to the region was with a “clear vision” to bring development to the grassroots.
Khekhio said during UPA regime, corruption was the fashion of the day whereas under the NDA under Narendra Modi has promised to root it out and also bring back black money stashed in foreign banks. He also said under UPA “look east policy” remained only on the paper but under Narendra Modi, it has become “act east policy”. He also urged upon the gathering to plan on NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog as it had to come from the grassroots.
Earlier, the governor also unveiled the conference monolith.
Highlights of the programme included orchestra by Indigenous Arts school Dimapur, Aüna kupu (couple show), Thighale, folk dance, traditional fashion parade and indigenous tune, Sumi indigenous games, (traditional fire ignition) and Angu küpusu (spear kick).
Presidential address was delivered by Toka Sumi while, welcome address by convener organising committee Mughavi Ayemi and vote of thanks by former president NSF V. Phushika Aomi. The programme was chaired by Indigenous cultural society Dimapur Dr. Hesheto Y. Chishi.
