Land ownership issue hampering development: Tokheho Yepthomi

Expressing concern over land ownership system in Nagaland, minister for PHED, Tokheho Yepthomi asserted that the land ownership issue has been hampering the developmental activities to a large extent.
Speaking at the inauguration of “water supply” to Longkim town on May 6, Tokheho said that “many projects” could not be implemented in the state because of the land ownership issue though the land was “free God’s gift”.
As a Christian and believer of Christ, he urged the people and also the church members to change the mindset and speak out what was right and wrong.  The minister also appreciated Angaba village for giving water sources to Longkim town and surrounding four villages and enabling PHED department to complete the work on time.  
Pointing out that deforestation would lead to depletion of water unless the source was properly maintained, he encouraged the gathering to learn how to “give and take” when it came to nature.
Tokheho urged them to organize an awareness programs for tree plantation especially near the water sources so as to maintain balance of water cycle.  He also appealed the gathering to support and cooperate with the department to make the scheme sustainable by properly managing and maintain the created assets.
On Naga political issue, the minister said Nagas must unite among themselves for political freedom and economic development. He said that Sangtam tribe being one of the advance tribes among ENPO areas should act as a bridge between other tribes to resolve conflict and dispute and bring peace in the ENPO areas. 
Delivering a short speech, advisor Co-Operation and Marcofed Imtilemba Imtilemba Sangtam appreciated the minister for his concern to the people of Longkim area and for taking up the mega project. 
Chief engineer PHED Nagaland, Er. K. Kruse presented technical report of the project amounting to Rs. 450. 69 lakh and said that the project was not feasibly economically due to paucity of funds although technically possible. He appealed the public to judiciously use the drinking water and efficiently maintain the system. 
The programme was chaired by ENSF finance secretary Lumtsase, invocation by executive secretary USBLA, Rev. Lima and welcome address was delivered by Khumpise. Short speeches were delivered by president PHSNS Hongcho and VCC Angangba, Setsachem and vote of thanks was delivered by EE, PHED Tuensang. 
The minister was also accompanied by deputy speaker NLA Imtikumzuk and SE Mokokchung circle, SE Kohima and EE Mokokchung division.
