Landowners to launch indefinite ban on rail project

As the 15-day deadline set to expire on August 1, 2017 and with no positive response from the state government, the landowners of six villages affected by the railway project have decided to impose “indefinite” ban on the ongoing work with effect from August 1, 2017.
GBs of Pimla, Dhansiripar, Razaphe Basa, Khemnok, Zutovi and Sokhuvi village, said that the ban will continue till the discrepancy on the rate of compensation of the land is settled. Therefore, GBs have urged the contractors to stop the work accordingly.
Earlier, GBs of the six villages alleged that rate of compensation of Rs. 28.75 per square feet against Rs. 60 per square feet in Chumukedima area was discriminatory when major portion of the land acquired were paddy fields.  They claimed that the cabinet decision to give Rs. 60 per square feet in Chumukedima area up to 18.400 km covers the lands of the six villages.
