Nagaland: Landslide destroy house in Wokha

A landslide triggered by heavy rainfall on August 26, destroyed a house in Etsuchuka Colony, Wokha.
According to Yanpothung, whose house was destroyed, said the landslide occurred around 3 pm on August 26. He said that they were a family of six and fortunately, none of them were present during the time of incident.


He said that the family could manage to retrieve only few of their belongings. The owner also informed that the area remains highly dangerous, as the landslide has carried away the foundations of neighboring houses, forcing those residents to evacuate as well.


Chairman of the Etsuchuka Colony Aremo Kithan, informed that the district disaster management team and local administration visited the site for an assessment. A meeting was also held at the DC office Wokha on August 27 to discuss the situation.


Ward No. 6 Councillor Santsuthung Murry, who also attended the meeting pointed out that the colony was frequently affected by floods and landslides. He appealed to the government for a thorough assessment of the damage and urged authorities to provide the necessary assistance to the affected families. The heavy rainfall has caused flooding and landslides in various parts of the district.
