Villages under Zunheboto district continues to face the brunt of incessant rain coupled with massive landslides, affecting normal life and causing huge loss of properties.
As per reports, a massive landslide that occurred at the Defense/Army Supply road which connects Aghunato sub-division to Yezutu town earlier this week, has damaged the Tsutha River Bridge halting all vehicular movements from Zunheboto to Kiphire.
Villagers of the affected area lamented that the road which serves as the only lifeline has been left abandoned for days as the concerned authority/department was yet to undertake measures to restore the bridge.
“The public on both sides of the two districts are facing immense hardship as we have to take the longer alternative route via Phek district” said a village elder. The villagers have appealed the concerned department to look into the matter at the earliest and further urged both the district administration– Zunheboto and Kiphire for necessary relief.
“Not only the bridge, but all the cultivated areas of the area have been completely destroyed,” a helpless farmer informed this Correspondent.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a massive landslide that occurred at Natha New village had totally blocked the road connecting the village. The quick intervention of the PWD (Mechanical) department Zunheboto cleared the road in the area. In this connection, the Natha New village council has expressed gratitude to the department for the timely action.
