Landslides disrupt key roads in Kiphire

KIPHIRE, AUG 3 (NPN): Massive landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have severely affected stretches of Officers’ Compound Road, Forest Ward, Amahator Road and Kohima Road below Kiphire village, causing hardship to commuters as roads narrowed and vehicular movement became difficult.
The situation has posed a serious threat to residents’ safety, with fears of further damage if rains continue.
On Monday, the 30th Assam Rifles Kiphire, led by its Commandant, along with personnel from Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF Kiphire, extended assistance in clearing blocked roads at multiple locations.
Meanwhile, the Officers’ Compound Road construction team has urged the District Administration and concerned departments to take up the matter urgently, noting that the road is a lifeline for thousands of residents, including school and college students, office goers, and transporters of essential goods.
They cautioned that without immediate intervention, houses along vulnerable slopes may collapse, leading to loss of lives.
