Late G. Rio Memorial: Dimapur to face Niuland in final

Dimapur district will take on Niuland in the final match of the ongoing 4th late G. Rio Memorial Men’s U19 inter-district tournament 2024 at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima at 9 am after winning their respective semi-final matches on Friday.


Playing the semi-final match at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Dimapur beat Zunheboto by 6 wickets.
After elected to bat first, Zunheboto set a target of 106 runs for Dimapur. Zunheboto started off with a good note, however, a destructive bowling spell by Sundram saw Zunheboto middle orders crumbled down and, in the process, he managed to compile his second 5 wickets haul in the ongoing tournament, setting up an easy target for his team. Raja 18 runs, Bekuto 17 runs and Aarush 16 runs were the only notable batters for Zunheboto.


Dimapur chased down the target in just 12.2 overs losing 4 wickets.
Meanwhile, at Sovima Cricket Ground, Niuland entered the final after beating Mokokchung by 1 wicket in a nail-biting match.


Mokokchung set a decent target of 158 runs in the allotted 50 overs losing 8 wickets.
Tail enders Moatemsu 51 (66 balls) and Imnawapang 15 (102 balls) remained unbeaten putting up a strong resistance helping their team to get to a decent total.


Imnatoshi 17 runs, Salangdangba 15 runs and Zany Lemtur 10 runs also contributed some useful runs. For Niuland, Jatin picked 3 wickets, Sonu took 2 wickets while Kumar and Darsh pocketed a wicket each.


Chasing a tricky target, Niuland had a tough time as their top order batters fell in quick succession as they were relying at 72-8 at one point of time. The in-form young left arm chinnaman spinner Amongti once again displayed a brilliant bowling spell who picked up 4 wickets in his allotted 10 overs and gave away only 16 runs. Once again, tail enders of Niuland, Kundan 81 runs and Sonu 23 runs rescued their team to reach the target. Imnawapang picked 2 wickets while Salangdangba, Moatemsu and Zany Lemtur took a wicket each.
