DIMAPUR, SEP 6 (NPN): The Late I. Pihoto Awomi Memorial Tournament, organized under the aegis of the Dimapur District Cricket Association (DDCA), has reached its final stage with the much-awaited final match scheduled for September 7 at the GNR Ground, Sovima, Chümoukedima. The clash will feature Veritas CC and Esa Boys, with the match set to begin at 1:00 PM, followed immediately by the closing ceremony and prize distribution ceremony.
In the first semi-final, Veritas CC registered a commanding 122-run victory over Esa Legends. Batting first, Veritas posted 146/6 in 20 overs, with contributions from Anirudh Yadav (36 off 41), Sanjay (36 off 26), Joshua Ben Ozukum (27 off 19) and captain Nagaho Chishi (19 off 16). Esa Legends faltered in the chase, bowled out for just 24 runs in 9.5 overs. Raja Swarnkar produced a match-winning spell of 4/7, supported by Ranjan Kumar (3/3) and Hopongkyu Sangtam (2/5). Swarnkar was adjudged Man of the Match for his exceptional bowling performance.
In the second semi-final, Esa Boys defeated Victoria CC by eight wickets. Victoria CC managed 89/9 in 20 overs, with contributions from Protik Kalbhor (20), D Kalu Rao (15), Sunil Das (14) and Sagar Saha (13). Esa Boys’ bowling attack was spearheaded by Tahmeed, who delivered a spell of 3/8 in 4 overs, supported by Medempok Pongen (2/19) and Samir Ali (2/16). In the chase, Shiva Yadav played a blistering knock of 50 off 31 balls, including five fours and three sixes, while Samir Ali (9 off 3) sealed the win in emphatic fashion. Yadav was named Man of the Match for his aggressive half-century.
With both teams showcasing dominant performances in the semi-finals, the final between Veritas CC and Esa Boys promises to be an exciting contest.
