Late singer Ponen Longkumer’s final song released by friends

Fulfilling the unfinished wish of their late friend, a group of friends of singer, songwriter and composer Ponen Longkumer on Sunday released the music video of his song “Chungliyimti” at the Christian Community Fellowship (CCF) Hall of Mokokchung Town Baptist Arogo (MTBA).
The music video was released by senior pastor of MTBA, Rev Dr Ponen Longchar in the presence of Longkumer’s wife, sister, friends and well-wishers.
Written and composed by Ponen Longkumer in 2020, the song remained unreleased following his death in 2021. Determined to fulfil his wish, his friends later recorded and produced the song to promote Chungliyimti and preserve Ao cultural heritage for younger generations.
Sung in the Ao language, “Chungliyimti” narrates the significance of Chungliyimti as the ancestral village from where the Ao people migrated to different settlements. The song reflects on the lives of the ancestors, their hard work and the cultural traditions that shaped the community.
Speaking at the release programme, singer Changsen Pongen said the music video was filmed at Chungliyimti itself, fulfilling the late composer’s vision. He said the initiative was encouraged by Nungsangmanen Aier, now serving as pastor of Guwahati Ao Baptist Church. After obtaining the consent and blessings of Longkumer’s family, the group of friends undertook the project with support from well-wishers.
Describing Ponen Longkumer as a gifted singer, songwriter, composer and musician, Pongen said the production was aimed at carrying forward his legacy. He expressed hope that the song would inspire peace and unity while deepening appreciation for Ao cultural heritage.
Pongen also acknowledged the contributions of Temsuyanger of Temz Records, videographers Jutichang Pongen and Moakumzuk Pongen, Alcoholics Anonymous MTBA and others who supported the project.
The song features Changsen Pongen, Kikum Longkumer, Nungsangmanen Aier and Imtilepten. It was recorded by Temsuyanger, while special effects and management were handled by Lanurenba Imchen.
The music video has been released on YouTube through the Changsen Pongen channel.
