A state funeral was accorded to late K Yamakam, former minister and four-time MLA, at his private residence, Purana Bazaar in Dimapur on Saturday. Late Yamakam, father of advisor, SCERT, IPR and Village Guards, Toshi Wongtung, passed away at a private hospital on Friday after a brief illness.
Speaking at the funeral service, veteran politician and former governor Dr. SC Jamir described late Yamakam as a man of strong conviction and trustworthy friend and colleague, who tirelessly worked for the uplift of Tuensang area.
State chief minister Neiphiu Rio paid his tribute at the airport. In his message, Rio described late leader as a simple and down to earth leader, a man of integrity and commitment, known for relentlessly raising the voice of the people he represented.
After the funeral service, the body of the departed leader was airlifted to Shamator town where he would be laid to rest after a funeral service on November 11.
Earlier, during the funeral service, speeches were delivered on behalf of the state government, NDPP, ENPO, Colony, Western Yimchungru Hoho, Yimchungru Union, Dimapur and friends and colleagues. Advisor Toshi Wongtung spoke on behalf of the family.
Other highlights of the funeral service included laying of wreaths special song and mass prayer.
The programme was chaired by Pastor Athsan, Yimchungru Baptist Church, Dimapur. Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang, a host of MLAs, former MLAs, government officials, public leaders and people from different walks of life attended the service.
Governor: Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, has expressed sadness on the death of former minister and four-time MLA, K Yamakam, and said in his demise, the people of Nagaland have lost a tall leader and a great human being who would be remembered fondly.
In a condolence message, Acharya said late Yamakam served the people of Nagaland in various capacities as a social leader, community leader and member of the NLA for 4 times.
Governor said his contributions for the uplift of weaker sections and underprivileged would be remembered by all.
Further, governor conveyed heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty God to grant strength and solace to bear the irreparable loss.
NLA speaker: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker, Vikho-o Yhoshü, has expressed grief over the demise of K Yamakam Yimchunger, and said the vacuum created by his death will be difficult to fill.
In a condolence message, NLA speaker described late Yamakam as a great statesman, who immensely contributed to the peace between the Nagas of Myanmar and India.
Yhoshü said late Yamakam, as an MLA and minister, made every effort for uplift of the people and brought several developments to his area in particular and Nagaland as a whole. In his demise one of the tallest leaders was lost, said the speaker and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the good Lord grant the, solace to overcome this hour of gloom.
