School Awareness Programme under National Tobacco Control programme (NTCP) Peren district was launched at Peren Government College (PGC) on August 3 with ADC Peren, Tainiu, as the chief guest.
Launching the NTCP program with a leaflet about the facts of tobacco “Choose life not Tobacco,” ADC urged all the participants to spread awareness on the ill effects of tobacco, to be a messenger.
Stating that “a candle looses nothing by lighting another candle,” ADC urged all to fight together for a Tobacco free generation.
Also speaking at the programme, Dr. Tiala gave the introductory note about the NTCP stating that the main objective was to create greater awareness on Tobacco, to control tobacco consumption.
She also highlighted about how the program was to be implemented. She stated that 50 schools would be covered under Peren district for awareness on tobacco.
Presenting the keynote address through power point presentation, resource person state nodal officer (NTCP), Dr. Hutokhu Chishi, highlighted the various health problems and other issues associated with tobacco use.
He further spoke about the role of youth to Inculcate tobacco free lifestyle, to be a role model in becoming an anti-tobacco activist, to initiate tobacco free meeting and conferences, to participate in tobacco control implementation and to update knowledge on tobacco control laws. Vice principal PGC, Albert, expressed his appreciation to the medical department for organizing and holding the launching program in the College. He added that everyone should start to think twice after the launching of the program.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by deputy chief medical officer, Dr. M. Tiala Longkumer. The program was attended by senior medical officer, DH Peren, Dr. Lhukhovi, Dr. Sabino, District Nodal Officer, NTCP, all the staff and students of PGC and Staff of chief medical office.
