Lions Club of Dimapur (LCD) celebrated pre Deepawali Mela at Lions Centre, here on Sunday.
Speaking to Nagaland Post, president of LCD, Basu Damani informed that the event was organized to provide social gathering from every community and for fund raising.
The social gathering event included purchasing of coupons where the citizens could enjoy benefits of free food and games provided by the organizer and stand a chance to win car as grand prize, motorcycle, scooty and various attractive prize as part of the lucky coupon.
Damani said that the club was established in 1971 and since then the club was committed to social service.
He said that the funds collected were utilized for different flagship program and contributed to social services including, eye screening test programme where more than thousand people were examined for eye check-up and around 100 patients were provided free eye operation.
Damani added that several programs including free vaccination, health camp and financial support to underprivileged students and patients were part of their social service programme. The president also informed that the funds were used for maintaining infrastructures such as multipurpose community hall and meeting hall where the citizens could utilized them for various events at nominal rates.
He also mentioned that the club was planning to organize blood bank program next year after consulting with the Health and Family Welfare department. Further, Damani said the club belonged to every citizens of Dimapur and was committed to serve the society. He therefore, appealed well-wishers to contribute inorder to organize different social service programme.
The extravagant event was attended by thousands of people mostly from business community to experience several entertainment games, food, health care products and Indian apparels.
