Legal awareness programme was organized by Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) at community hall, Jalukie ‘B’ Village on March 19, chaired by JMFC/secretary PDLSA Ajongba Imchen.
Ajongba also highlighted on village council act based on duties and responsibilities of village council members since they act as a judge at the village level and that they could be removed on moral grounds and misuse of power.
He said that they were also required to adhere as per the Nagaland Village Council Act not to impose fine more than what was prescribed under the act and to avoid taking up cases of heinous crimes.
He also stated that Peren district was second highest in filing RTI application yet the information and development was still far reached in the villages.
Panel lawyers Asungbe spoke on “Child Rights”, “Arms Act”, “Right of Arrested Person”, “MNGREA” and “Motor Vehicle Act”.
Limasenla Longkumer spoke on various welfare schemes and RTI, and Esther K Aye spoke on “Domestic violence Act 2005”, “Right to Maintenance under 125CrPC” and “Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme”.
The participants raised queries relating to absence of short stay home in the district, adolescents club in govt. schools as provided under the welfare schemes.
The programme was attended by village council members, women organisation, NGO’s and students from various schools. Vote of thanks was given by Jalukie ‘B’ village chairman, Namki Mpom.
