Legal Services Clinic (LSC) was inaugurated at Losami Village, Phek, on July 22.
According to PRA NSLSA, this is the fifth LSC under Phek District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), following earlier openings at Meluri, Pfutsero, District Jail Phek, and Chetheba. The programme was chaired by Retainer Lawyer Phek DLSA, Sekhotso Rokha, who welcomed all dignitaries and explained the importance of LSCs in providing free legal aid to the public.
An opening prayer was led by Neikhwewe Mekrisuh, Associate Pastor of Losami Baptist Church, followed by a welcome address from Village Council chairman, Zechete Mekrisuh, who thanked DLSA for launching the clinic in the village.
Chairperson of Phek DLSA and District & Sessions Judge, Mezivolu T. Therieh, spoke on the concept of legal aid and explained that just like medical clinics, legal clinics serve the public by offering free legal help. She cited Article 39A of the Constitution, which guarantees legal aid to those in need.
Deputy Commissioner Phek, Rhosietho Ngouri, congratulated Losami Village and spoke on the importance of Customary Laws and local courts. He said the clinic would improve access to justice in rural areas.
Member secretary of Nagaland Legal Services Authority, Neiko Akami, delivered the inaugural speech, highlighting government legal aid schemes and how to avail them. He emphasised legal rights for senior citizens and assured support to vulnerable groups through DLSA’s outreach.
