Lemsachenlok, Longleng, observed International Wildlife Week (October 2–8) with a special programme themed “Human-Wildlife Coexistence”, aimed at promoting conservation awareness and community engagement in environmental protection.
According to a press release issued by coordinator Susan, the event was graced by Sentiyatet Phom, administrator of Lemsachenlok, who delivered the keynote address.
In his speech, Sentiyatet emphasized the importance of Wildlife Week, stating that addressing human-animal conflict requires shared responsibility from individuals and communities.
Highlighting the critical role of forests in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating climate change, Sentiyatet remarked, “Forests are not only home to wildlife but are also essential in regulating the climate by absorbing carbon dioxide. Protecting our forests is protecting our future.”
He further called for collective efforts in forest preservation, stressing that environmental conservation is directly linked to human well-being and sustainable development. Sentiyatet encouraged local communities to actively participate in plantation drives and other initiatives to restore ecological balance and ensure a healthier environment for future generations.
The programme was chaired by Toshila Phom, with an invocation offered by Imdongdangla and a welcome address delivered by Mongnyei.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Village Council Chairmen (VCCs), Gaon Burahs (GBs), Village Council Members (VCMs), and student representatives from 20 villages under Longleng district, reflecting a strong communal commitment to environmental stewardship.
