
Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) conducted an international Webinar on “intellectual property rights” on October 29 with Prof. Jangkhongam Doungel, Mizoram University, senior research fellow, University of Cincinnati, Ohio State, USA as the resource person.
A press release from the college informed that in his talk, Prof. Jangkhongam highlighted the importance of intellectual property rights for people from different walks of life.
Stating that it was a concept was evident even before the 20th and 21st century, he said that it had become significant due to globalisation and international trade & relations among the nations.
He spoke in length about the importance of IPR in academic world since a writer, author could be violating IPR without being aware.
Therefore, he emphasised that if anything was published by an author, writer, if he/she borrowed original ideas/concepts from others, due credit must be given to the source. Apart from this, a person might violate IPR if one manipulates, tampers data collected for research, he exhorted.
The professor also stated that violation of IPR could land someone in legal suits and penalties.
Earlier, the session began with a brief introduction from the host, L Achilo Kikon, welcome address was delivered by LFIC principal, Dr. R K Behera. The webinar was attended by participants from various parts of the country.
