Lotha Hoho(LH) and Angami Students’ Union(ASU) have, in separate statements, called for non-participation in all government programmes in line with the August 9 resolution adopted by the apex bodies of five tribes- Angami Public Organization, Ao Senden, Lotha Hoho, Rengma Hoho and Sumi Hoho.
Lotha Hoho (LH) has directed all the Lotha organizations, students and individuals to abstain from all government programmes and functions indefinitely with immediate effect till further direction.
In a circular, LH chairman Er Mhondamo Ovung and joint secretary Limhathug Odyuo said the decision was taken in compliance with the resolution of 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) at the August 9, 2025 meeting and in solidarity with the tribes.
LH has therefore, directed all Lotha organizations, students and individuals to abstain from the Independence Day 2025 functions on August 15, 2025, in any form, including cultural presentation etc within Wokha district and throughout Nagaland. Further, LH pointed out that the existing Nagaland Job Reservation Policy has been in place for the last 48 years under which, the “so called advanced tribes” have been “unfairly deprived” of the opportunities in government jobs.
LH said “this redundant job reservation policy” was depriving youth, particularly the educated youth of the affected societies.
Towards “legitimate share” of opportunities, the LH has urged Lotha youth and students in particular to spearhead “this peaceful show” of resentment to the existing Nagaland Job Reservation Policy. LH has, however, cautioned all that all acts of resentment would be carried out peacefully and without resorting to any act of violence.
ASU: Meanwhile, Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has directed all students under its jurisdiction to abstain from participating in any government organized function, or related activity, including the upcoming Independence Day on August 15, 2025.
In a circular, ASU president Diezevisie Nakhro and general secretary Rajuselie Chücha said the decision was taken in strict pursuance of the unanimous resolution adopted by the 5 Tribes Committee on the Review of Reservation Policy, together with the tribal Hohos, on August 9, 2025 and in full compliance with the directive of Angami Public Organization(APO).
ASU stated that the directive was binding which reflected the community’s united stand to uphold the resolution, protect collective rights and assert the democratic will of the people.
Further, ASU called upon every student to remain steadfast, disciplined and “resolute in this common cause.”
