LI-NING 47th Nagaland Inter-District Badminton C’ship concludes

The LI-NING 47th Nagaland Inter-District & State Badminton Championship 2025 concluded on Friday with a vibrant closing ceremony held at the K. Kire IPS Indoor Badminton Stadium, NAPTC Chumoukedima. The ceremony marked the culmination of an intense and spirited tournament featuring top talent from across the state.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training), Imnalensa, graced the occasion as the special guest. In his address, he highlighted the unwavering commitment of the Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA) in organizing the prestigious annual event despite various challenges. He lauded the Association’s officials for their perseverance and passion, noting that their efforts reflected true dedication to the sport.
Imnalensa commended the participation of young athletes from diverse districts, emphasizing that their energy and spirit brought life to the championship. He expressed hope that many among them would go on to represent Nagaland and serve as future inspirations for the sport. “Success is built on discipline, determination and hard work,” he stated, congratulating the medal winners and encouraging all players to continue honing their skills.
He further acknowledged the crucial role played by coaches, calling them “the architects behind the players’ dreams.” Their guidance, he said, goes beyond technical skill—it helps mold character.
The closing event began with an invocation prayer by Youth Director of Police Baptist Church Imlimenba Jamir. Short speeches were delivered by the NBA president and the tournament referee, leading into a thrilling series of final match showdowns and the grand prize distribution ceremony.
In team events, 13 districts participated; in men’s team championship, 12 districts; junior boys Liam, 13 districts; individual events. There were total entries of 150 with 140 total matches played. Male players (109) and female players (50) with total participants of 159 athletes and represented by 17 districts including the Nagaland Police team.
In girls’ doubles U19, the duo of Kipangwala Longkumer and Yalemjungla from Dimapur and Mokokchung clinched the top position, while Nancy and Moimei B. Phom from Longleng secured second place. The Boys’ Doubles U19 title was claimed by Niuland’s pair, Bovi K. Chishi and Heloka Swu. Dimapur’s Meren Sair and Kim Kim Khongsai emerged champions in Mixed Doubles U19. Kim Kim also triumphed in Girls’ Singles U19, adding to Dimapur’s medal tally. In Boys’ Singles U19, Mokokchung’s Yohenba earned first place.
Senior category results: In the open mixed doubles category, Kohima’s Khriepezhakuo Seyie and Ekumyala took the top honors. Women’s doubles was won by the Dimapur-Kohima pair of Debahuti Lahon and Shekhotolu Puro, while Rikhu Khape and Khriepezhakuo Seyie topped the Men’s Doubles. In individual categories, Mon’s A Ponlih Konyak claimed the women’s singles title, and Mokokchung’s Yohenba again impressed by winning the men’s singles event.
Junior Boys’ team results: Niuland district clinched the championship title in the Junior Boys’ category. Mokokchung followed closely in second place, while Mon and Peren settled for joint third. Kohima, Zunheboto, Meluri, and Chumoukedima finished in the top eight bracket.
Men’s Team results: Dimapur emerged victorious in the Men’s category. Chumoukedima secured the runner-up position. Peren and Shamator shared third place. Districts like Kohima, Mokokchung, and Phek rounded out the top eight, while several other districts placed among the top 12.
