Liangmai Naga Council slams Manipur government

IMPHAL, JUL 9 (AGENCIES): The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) strongly condemned the state government’s continued failure to deliver justice for the six Naga men who were abducted and brutally killed on May 13, 2026, reports Newmai News Network. “After 57 days, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or publicly identified, deepening the grief of the bereaved families and eroding public confidence in the rule of law”, the Liangmai body said.
The LNC-M said that despite the passage of 57 days, no meaningful action has been taken against those responsible. It added that those perpetrators continue to roam free while the victims’ families continue to await justice and closure.
The Liangmai body then said that instead of ensuring accountability, the Chief Minister continues to speak of “peace” while justice remains unserved. “Lasting peace cannot exist without justice”, it further added. The LNC-M then expressed deep concern that security forces appear to have focused on disrupting peaceful democratic protests rather than pursuing the perpetrators. It stated that such actions undermine democratic rights and public trust.
The Liangmai body then demanded immediate arrest and public booking of all those responsible. It also demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the killings and the conduct of security forces. The LNC-M further demanded an end to “intimidation” of peaceful protesters and protection of citizens’ democratic rights.
“Having failed in its fundamental duty to protect lives and uphold justice, LNC-M calls upon the state government to step down and allow the people to determine the future course of the State”, it asserted.
Stating that justice delayed is justice denied, the LNC-M said it “remains committed to pursuing truth, accountability, and justice through peaceful democratic means until justice is served”.
