Liangmen Fish Sanctuary was inaugurated at Nokpu village under Mangkolemba subdivision, Mokokchung, on June 21 with the release of around 50,000 fish nursery stock into the Liangmen river.
According to a press release, the conservation initiative was spearheaded by Tzükhuchanger Jupang in collaboration with Nokpu Village Council and Saringyim (Nokpu B) Village Council.
The sanctuary aims to protect aquatic biodiversity, promote ecological balance, and raise awareness on environmental conservation. It is also expected to evolve into a scenic destination for visitors and nature enthusiasts.
The organisers expressed gratitude to AFI Mokokchung, Temsuwapang Longchar, for facilitating the fish nursery and extended appreciation to DMC Councillor (Ward 20), Lanuchuba Imchen, for his support.
The release further mentioned that plans are underway for a larger conservation initiative encompassing local flora and fauna to strengthen environmental protection and ecological harmony.
