District Administration, Shamator, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Yimkhiung Liberü Arihako, Shamator Area, organised a Life Skills training programme on October 22 aimed at empowering local youth through traditional and practical skill development.
Addressing the gathering, EAC Shamator, Kudazo Swuro, shared his vision of equipping every youth in the district with at least one trade or skill to promote self-reliance and contribute to socio-economic growth. He identified the construction sector as a key area with high employment potential and encouraged youth to pursue training in the field to enhance job opportunities within and beyond the district.
The training focused on traditional basket making and cotton thread weaving—skills deeply rooted in cultural heritage and recognised as sustainable sources of livelihood. A total of 70 participants, including enthusiastic youth and community members, took part in the programme.
To ensure effective learning, one trainee coordinator and four expert tutors conducted detailed demonstrations and guided participants throughout the sessions. The programme concluded with an interactive feedback session, where participants expressed appreciation to the organisers for providing a platform to preserve traditional craftsmanship and enhance livelihood opportunities.
