The Liju Federation, Wozhuro Block, under the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM), held its 2nd annual general meeting at Likya Community Hall, Wokha. The event was graced by deputy director, department of animal husbandry & veterinary services, Wokha, Dr. E. Mhonlumi Lotha, as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lotha urged self-help groups (SHGs) to leverage departmental schemes and adopt a broader approach to farming, including livestock, fisheries, and beekeeping. She highlighted government support through technical assistance, artificial insemination services, and schemes such as CMMFI and PMEGP for livestock development.
Warning about African Swine Fever, she stressed strict biosecurity and proper disposal of infected animals. She also advocated for rabies vaccinations in dogs and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to training and supporting SHGs.
Block Development Officer Rachel Himb emphasized SHGs’ role in poverty reduction and sustainable livelihoods, encouraging active participation in training and programs. ARCS Obendangba urged the federation to register as a cooperative society and assured continued support. The event also featured an inspiring success story by Yichani Khuvung of Tchumeru VLO, who, with SHG support, started multiple ventures including piggery, poultry, and banana cultivation.
The Block Development Officer (BDO), Wozhuro, Rachel Himb, emphasized the crucial role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in promoting sustainable livelihoods and reducing poverty. Despite being one of the youngest blocks in the district, Wozhuro has emerged as one of the most active and progressive. The BDO urged members not to be complacent but to seize opportunities, participate actively in trainings, programs, and meetings, and make the most of the resources available. She assured those necessary trainings and seminar would be provided whenever required. During the programme, awards were presented to: Best VLO – Mangasa VLO (Pongidong), best SHG – Myanta SHG (Totsu), best VF cum MBK – Lily Odyuo (Khumtsu), best CSP – Yanbano M Ovung (New Longchum) and best CRP-EP – Chanchibeni (Khumtsu)
