The Government of India has approved the appointment of senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Limatula Yaden, as Minister (Customs) at India’s Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Geneva.
Limatula, an officer of the 1996 batch (Customs & Indirect Taxes), will take charge in place of Ganesh Dutt Lohani, IRS (1993 batch), will serve a three-year term from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders.
The post of Minister (Customs) at WTO is considered significant as it involves representing India’s trade and customs-related interests in multilateral trade negotiations, dispute settlement cases and discussions on tariff and non-tariff measures.
Her appointment comes at a crucial time when issues of trade barriers and customs duties remain at the forefront of global economic deliberations.
Limatula Yaden’s posting is expected to strengthen India’s representation in global trade forums, especially in areas concerning customs duties, trade facilitation and dispute resolution mechanisms.
