The Lions International Peace Poster Contest 2025, organized by the Lions Club of Kohima, was held at the Conference Hall of the Red Cross, Kohima on October 10. The event brought together 24 students from 13 schools in and around Kohima, including 11 under the competitive category and 2 under the non-competitive category, all participating under the global theme “Together As One.”
The contest showcased exceptional creativity, with each poster reflecting powerful messages of unity and peace. Renowned artist and East Asian Artist Forum member, Nicky Kire, served as the judge, commending the depth of imagination and thematic interpretation demonstrated by the young participants.
Hruyia Irene of Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Kohima, secured the first position, followed by Monoteo Ritse of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima, and Vikusier Kuotsu of St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Kohima, in second and third positions respectively. In the non-competitive category, Ezewe Chirhah from Cherry Blossom School and Vikhopi Sakhrie from Jo Foundation Inclusive School presented notable artworks.
Chief guest Commandant of 13 Assam Rifles, Col. Manoj Sankhyan, praised the participants for their artistic expressions promoting peace and unity, and encouraged the Lions Club to continue fostering such initiatives. Guest of honor Program Executive of Doordarshan Kendra Nagaland, Hmingthansanga, also attended the event.
President of the Lions Club of Kohima, Oken Jeet Sandham, expressed gratitude to the participating schools and shared plans to expand the contest’s reach in future editions. Contest chairperson Max Marius Menuose-o delivered the welcome address, outlining the contest’s background and rules. The programme commenced with a prayer by National Teachers’ Award recipient Mimi Yhoshu, followed by the contest proceedings. Neivozonuo Zao delivered the vote of thanks, and Kopele Tepa offered the closing prayer.
Teachers, Lions Club members, and organizing volunteers were present during the prize distribution ceremony. The top three winning posters will advance to the Regional and National rounds, with the potential to reach the final international round. The international winner will receive a major cash prize and citation, along with an invitation to the award ceremony accompanied by a parent/guardian and a Lions Club representative. Additionally, 23 merit awardees at the international level will receive cash prizes and citations.
