Lirmen citizens sensitised on land management

Illustrating on the adverse and uneconomic effects of jhum cultivation practices on the environment, Assistant Horticulture Officer, Anik Langu, has suggested measures to be followed by some land management practices such as contour bunding, bench terracing, afforestation etc for reclaiming the soil as well as sustaining the productivity of the land.
Anik Langu, who was the resource person, said this during the seminar organized by Humane Touch at Lirmen village in Mokokchung in commemoration of National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) 2014-15 on the theme “Adopting sustainable land management practices” on February 14.
Meren Imchen, Scientist ‘B’ from Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) sensitized the villagers on the topic “Cleanliness and etiquettes.” He explained that maintaining a clean environment is very important both in rural and urban areas. He said littering of waste is not only an eyesore to the passerby but it also degrades environment and pollutes water bodies, which could also spread various water borne diseases.
Imcha Longkumer, treasurer of Human Touch and social activist, who also spoke on the occasion, mentioned about the pioneers from Lirmen village who have brought laurels and honour to the village in different fields. He has suggested the need for retrospection and learned from the life of past leaders for the advance and betterment of the society.
The programme was chaired by Lima Longchar, while the invocation was said by Rev. Mar, Pastor of Lirmen Baptist Church. The vote of thanks was proposed by Peter Longkumer, Joint Secretary Humane Touch.
A joint meeting of Lirmen Village Council and Humane Touch was held where issue pertaining to the village was discussed.
Meanwhile, the society had acknowledged the Regional Resource Agency (RRA) i.e. Nagaland Pollution Control Board for the technical, logistic as well as financial support.
