MOKOKCHUNG, MAY 9 (NPN): The launching programme of the Livestock Insurance Scheme under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) was held at Khar village, 29 Jangpetkong A/C, Mokokchung district, on May 8. The programme was organised by Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and graced by Temjenmenba, advisor Transport and Technical Education.
The scheme provides insurance coverage for certain livestock, enabling farmers to avail affordable protection. Beneficiaries will pay a uniform 15% premium share, while the remaining 85% will be subsidised by the Central and State governments. Each household will be eligible to insure up to 10 cattle units.
Delivering the keynote address, director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Kuokehebi Gwirie, expressed hope that the scheme would succeed with the support of the MLA. He said the initiative was focused on helping farmers and added that the department aimed to cover all livestock farmers in the state. He explained the scope of the scheme and sought cooperation from all stakeholders.
In his address, Temjenmenba described the launch as a significant day for the constituency. He lauded the department for introducing the scheme, which he said would benefit livestock farmers. He announced that the first year’s premium would be borne through the LADP fund of the constituency, and urged farmers to grasp the opportunity. He also appealed to the department to extend all possible help and assured his support for the success of the scheme.
Earlier, Imtiakum, a piggery entrepreneur from Dibuia village, shared his perspective on livestock insurance. Greetings were delivered by Limatoshi, chairman of Khar village council, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Tiachuba, Chief Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung.
