DIMAPUR: The Lotha Lower Range Students’ Union (LLRSU) has urged contractors entrusted with bridge construction under the Foothill Road project to expedite pending works and complete them by June 30, 2026.
In a press statement, LLRSU said it has consistently monitored the progress of the Foothill Road project, recognising its importance for the people of the Lower Range area and Nagaland as a whole. The union described the project as a vital infrastructure initiative that would enhance connectivity, economic growth and self-reliance.
Following the inauguration of the Foothill Road stretch from Doyang Bridge to the Merapani sector under the EE Baghty division by the legislator of 40 A/C, LLRSU said it conducted an inspection and verification of the works undertaken. Based on its assessment, the union expressed satisfaction with several completed portions of the road and acknowledged the efforts of the executing firms.
LLRSU commended M/s JK Construction and M/s Chabou & Co. for their commitment and contributions to the project. However, it requested the firms to address certain locations requiring minor repairs and finishing works, as assured during the inauguration programme held on May 23, 2026.
The union expressed confidence that the firms would continue to maintain the same level of commitment and workmanship while addressing the remaining works.
At the same time, the union expressed concern over the slow pace of construction of several bridges entrusted to M/s N. Chisho Swu & Sons, M/s RenKik-E.Z.J & Co., M/s Quinker Enterprises, M/s P. Mhatum & Co., and M/s Pele Khezhie.
Stating that bridges were integral to ensuring seamless and uninterrupted connectivity along the Foothill Road, LLRSU urged the concerned firms to complete the pending works on or before June 30, 2026.
While expressing hope that the firms would respond positively, the union cautioned that continued delays without reasonable justification could compel it to adopt appropriate democratic measures to express the concerns and aspirations of the people.
Further, LLRSU appealed to all contractors, executing agencies and stakeholders involved in the project to maintain the highest standards of quality and accountability, stating that the Foothill Road carried the hopes and aspirations of the people of the Lower Range, the Lotha community and Nagas at large.
The union also sought the cooperation and support of the public during the ongoing development phase and reiterated its commitment to working towards the successful completion of the project.
