LM&CP cautions consumers

Legal metrology and consumer protection (LM&CP), Kohima has cautioned the consumers to check MRP of both post-GST and pre-GST price tag on packages before buying, after a firm (AK Hardware) at BOC area was caught allegedly for removing the MRP on a package and replacing it with the price post-GST in “handwritten”.
LM&CP, Kohima I. Meyeimeren Ao in a statement said that such practice was in violation of section 18 of the legal metrology act 2009.
Under the act, the manufactures/packers or importers or pre-packaged commodities have to declare the changed MRP on the unsold stock manufactured/packed /imported prior to July 1, 2017 and from July 1, 2017 to September 30, 2017 the original MRP has to be displayed and the revised MRP should be made by way of stamping or putting stickers or online printing and not overwritten.
The assistant controller also informed the traders that declaration on pre-packaged commodities is a must under the legal metrology act 2009 and legal metrology (packaged commodities) rules 2011. Therefore, in the event of such malpractices by the traders, consumers have been asked to contact the office of assistant controller, legal metrology and consumer protection, Kohima.
