LMFN demands morning Dimapur-Guwahati train

DIMAPUR, MAR 25

The Linguistic Minority Forum of Nagaland (LMFN) has submitted a memorandum to the general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, urging introduction of a daily morning train service between Dimapur and Guwahati.
In a press release, LMFN said its chairman, Bishnu Bhattacharjee, submitted the memorandum, wherein the forum proposed that the train service should depart Dimapur between 6 am and 7 am and reach Guwahati by 10 am to 11 am, which would benefit a large number of commuters.
The forum pointed out that Guwahati serves as the main gateway to the Northeast, providing connectivity to long-distance trains, flights, healthcare, education and business centres.
It said the absence of a convenient morning train has caused inconvenience to students, patients, office-goers and businesspersons from Nagaland and neighbouring Manipur.
LMFN also stated that a similar service existed earlier and its discontinuation or rescheduling had led to hardship for passengers. It appealed for restoration of a practical morning schedule.
Highlighting the importance of Dimapur railway station as one of the highest revenue-generating stations in the region after Guwahati, the forum stressed the need for better connectivity with the rest of the country.
Further, LMFN urged reintroduction of Brahmaputra Mail (Train No. 14055) via Dimapur and proposed a dedicated daily commuter train service between Dimapur and Guwahati to improve regional mobility.
The forum expressed hope that Northeast Frontier Railway authorities would consider the demand and take necessary action in the interest of the public.
