LMRSU urges DoSE to address infrastructure, teacher shortage issues

Lotha Middle Range Students’ Union (LMRSU) appealed to the department of school education (DoSE) to address its long-pending demands including infrastructure and shortage of teachers in Sanis and adjoining areas under Wokha district.
In a representation submitted to the principal director school education through DEO Wokha, LMRSU president Rhonbemo Murry and general secretary Lichon Kithan raised concern over lack of benches and desks in various institutions particularly at GHSS Sungro, GMS Okotso and GHS Sanis.
It stated that during 2021-2022 academic year, 34 benches and desks were allocated for high school students of GHSS Sungro. However, allocation was only for the high school level. After the school was upgraded to higher secondary status in 2022, LMRSU said no additional furniture had been provided for the higher secondary students.
At GMS Okotso, the union said although the school received eight desks and benches, it continued to experience a furniture shortage. LMRSU pointed out that infrastructure of GHS Sanis was in urgent need of renovation due to age-related structural concerns.
Regarding shortage of teacher, LMRSU urged the department to prioritize and expedite the deployment of teachers. It expressed dismay that its earlier representations to the department appeared to have been overlooked, saying no concrete actions have been taken.
Therefore, LMRSU has urged the department to urgently address the concerns and provide written assurance.
The union reminded that it had on August 26, 2025 served a seven-day ultimatum on the department to address the issues. Since the deadline has now lapsed, the union cautioned that failure to receive a positive response with written assurance, it would be compelled to take action including lawful agitation as decided during an emergency consultative meeting on August 23, 2025.
