LMRVCCU alarm over wild elephant crisis

DIMAPUR

The Lotha Middle Range Village Council Chairman Union (LMRVCCU), representing 28 villages in Wokha district, has voiced grave concern over the worsening elephant-human conflict across the region.
In a press release Lotha Middle Range Village Council Chairman Union president R. Thechamo Ovung and secretary Shanthungo Yanthan, cited repeated destruction of agricultural lands—including paddy fields, rubber and betel nut plantations—by wild elephants.
Despite years of losses, the state government has reportedly taken no substantial action.
The union warned that the elephant birth rate in the area has outpaced human population growth, deepening fears for both lives and livelihoods. While villagers have employed protective measures, the lack of government intervention has left communities vulnerable.
Lotha Middle Range Village Council Chairman Union declared it will no longer be held accountable for the consequences of the escalating conflict, shifting full responsibility to the government for any further damage or threats.
