Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, held a review meeting with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), led by R.P. Singh, executive director (Projects), and Anand Kumar, deputy general manager (Projects), along with contractors and consultants of ongoing NHIDCL road projects in Nagaland. The meeting was held at the NHIDCL regional office, Kohima, on October 11.
During the meeting, Supongmeren raised serious concerns over the frequent blockages along the Dimapur-Kohima four-lane highway, particularly under New ChĂĽmoukedima village area, causing public inconvenience. He reminded that the project was scheduled for completion by September 25, 2025, as per a report submitted to the Ministry of DoNER, and sought detailed explanations for the delays in the Dimapur-Kohima four-lane, Kohima bypass, and Kohima-Jessami projects.
In a presentation, R.P. Singh highlighted that delays were caused by natural disruptions, prolonged monsoon, technical and logistical challenges, and local issues. He informed that the Dimapur bypass and Package 2 of the Dimapur-Kohima four-lane have been completed, while major portions of Package 3 was nearing completion and expected to be completed by December 2025.
For Package 1, covering New ChĂĽmoukedima, protective measures against landslides have been identified and are awaiting approval.
On the Kohima bypass project, Singh admitted slow progress in Packages 1, 2, and 4 due to technical challenges, tunnel distress, and local issues but assured that corrective steps were underway. He further stated that the Kohima-Jessami road is expected to be completed by September 2026, with most of the initial issues resolved.
Supongmeren called for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders and urged prompt communication with the state government on issues affecting project progress.
He informed that another coordination meeting would be held in November 2025, where NHIDCL officials and contractors would present progress reports on all road projects.
