DIMAPUR, AUG 6 (NPN): Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S. Supongmeren Jamir, on Thursday urged the Centre to immediately and transparently implement the Naga political agreements, stating that the prolonged delay had created uncertainty and frustration among the Naga people.
Raising the matter under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, Jamir recalled that the Government of India had signed the Framework Agreement with the NSCN (I-M) on August 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) on November 17, 2017.
He pointed out that 11 years had passed since the signing of the Framework Agreement and nearly nine years since the Agreed Position, but implementation of both agreements remained pending. Stating that the agreements should now move from the negotiation stage to implementation, Jamir urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to expedite the process without further delay.
He said that since the Government of India had repeatedly maintained that the negotiations had concluded, the focus should now shift to honouring the commitments made through timely implementation.
Jamir also cautioned that continued delays could lead to growing public dissatisfaction and the emergence of more aggrieved groups, which could adversely affect the peace process. Emphasising transparency, the Nagaland MP said whatever was ultimately implemented should be done in a transparent manner so that the Naga people were fully informed and the final settlement reflected their aspirations and interests.
