Longleng CSOs seek urgent repair of Changtongya-Longleng road

DIMAPUR, JUN 29 (NPN): Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Longleng district, under the aegis of the Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC), have demanded immediate restoration of the deteriorating Changtongya-Longleng two-lane road and sought a detailed status report on the delayed project within a week.
The demand was made during a consultative meeting convened on June 29, 2026 to deliberate on issues concerning the welfare and development of the district.
According to a press release issued by the Phom Students’ Conference (PSC) media cell, PPC president YB Angam Phom expressed serious concern over the prolonged neglect of the road project, saying its poor condition had caused immense hardship to commuters and adversely affected transportation, economic activities and the overall development of the district. The meeting urged the responsible authorities to undertake immediate repair and maintenance of the road within the week to ensure the safety and convenience of the public.
CSOs also resolved to pursue the matter with the responsible government departments and agencies until necessary action was taken in the interest of the people of Longleng district.
The organisations noted that despite submitting several representations and holding meetings with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the district administration and the executing agency, no concrete action had been taken to address the issues affecting the project.
CSOs called upon the authorities to submit a comprehensive inspection report on the present condition of the road and the progress of construction to the CSOs within one week. They demanded that the report should clearly outline the condition of the road, reasons for the delay and the proposed plan for completing and maintaining the project.
CSOs cautioned that if the authorities failed to submit the report and initiate immediate corrective measures within the stipulated period, they would be held solely responsible for any action the organisations might be compelled to take in the interest of the people of Longleng district.
