Longleng observes anti malaria month with awareness, LLIN drive

DIMAPUR: Office of the District Vector Borne Officer, Longleng under the Chief Medical Officer observed Anti Malaria Month 2026 with a series of awareness and prevention activities across the district under the theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.”
According to DIPR report, the campaign aimed to strengthen malaria surveillance, promote community awareness and encourage active participation in prevention and elimination. Mass screening of migrant workers was conducted in identified high risk areas to facilitate early detection and prompt treatment of malaria cases.
Awareness programmes were organised in schools and health units, educating participants on malaria transmission, symptoms, preventive measures, early diagnosis and the importance of consistent use of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). Focus group discussions were also held in Longleng town wards and villages to encourage community participation.
The district observed LLIN Fortnight from June 10 to 25, during which MTS, surveillance workers and ASHAs carried out evening house to house visits to monitor net usage and educate households.
An inter school poster competition was organised on June 22 at the CMO Conference Hall, Longleng, with participation from six schools. Certificates and prizes were awarded to winners for their outstanding performances.
The month long campaign witnessed active participation from health workers, staff, school students, community leaders, NGOs and the general public. The activities significantly strengthened awareness, promoted early detection, reinforced LLIN usage and reaffirmed Longleng district’s commitment towards malaria elimination.
