Longmatra Mango Fest boosts farming

The Longmatra Mango Festival 2025 was held at Longmatra town on Saturday with advisor for Home Guard & Civil Defence, Fire & Emergency Services, Relief & Rehabilitation, S. Kiusumew Yimchunger as the chief guest and DC Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, Kiusumew praised Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for prioritizing farmers and rural development. He encouraged villagers to use their land productively and explore income opportunities through fruit cultivation. Kiusumew noted that Kiphire district has great potential for fruit festivals and urged villagers to work hard and take part in marketing activities. He also appealed to the concerned departments to support farmers in Longmatra.
Guest of honour, DC Longkumer, called on villagers to use social media to earn a living and emphasized that farming contributes to both health and peace of mind. He said the Mango Festival is a small but meaningful beginning that could attract visitors from outside Nagaland in the future.
EAC Longmatra, Takatemjen Pongen delivered the welcome address, while Muthsodang, Head DB Longmatra, gave the vote of thanks. The programme was anchored by Apiba Sangtam.
The second session included games such as mango-eating competition, tug-of-war, sack race and mango-on-a-pole contest.
The event was jointly organized by Longmatra Administration, Department of Horticulture and local citizens.
