Amid the ongoing agitation by RMSA-2016 teachers across Nagaland, the Lotha Hoho and Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) have issued strong appeals to the state government, urging immediate resolution of the impasse and protection of students’ academic welfare.
In a press release, the Lotha Hoho Legal Cell expressed deep concern over the absence of teachers in 133 government schools, warning that the prolonged crisis threatens the future of thousands of students. Citing the Supreme Court’s order dated May 28, 2025 (SLP (C) 19524/2022), the Hoho called on the government to honour the verdict and clarify the status of any review petition. It emphasised the need for an honourable and accommodative resolution, lauding the teachers’ persistent efforts and urging the government to uphold peace, harmony, and good governance.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Chang Khulei Setshang (Chang Tribal Council) expressed solidarity with the aggrieved RMSA-2016 batch, stating that the teachers were appointed through competitive examination and had legally secured their rights through the High Court’s ruling in WA09/2020. Despite the Supreme Court upholding the verdict, the council noted that the teachers continue to face pay disparity, being pressured to work for Rs. 31,315 per month—an act it termed as “pure deprivation.”
The council condemned the government’s delay tactics and urged immediate intervention to prevent further disruption to students’ education. It called for equal pay for equal work and stressed that the government must not act above the law. The Chang Khulei Setshang affirmed its support for the teachers’ peaceful agitation and expressed hope that their demands would be met without delay.
Both organisations have appealed to the public and authorities to act with urgency and compassion to safeguard the future of Nagaland’s students.
