Lotha Hoho flags off environmental study tour

DIMAPUR: Lotha Hoho Committee on Environment Studies on October 19 flagged off a four day environmental assessment and study tour across Wokha district to examine environmental issues and explore the district’s potential for conservation and sustainable development.
The tour was flagged off by Er. Mhondamo Ovung, chairman, Lotha Hoho, from the SMF and Central Bank area along NH 2 (NH 61). The programme will continue until October 22, covering various locations across the district.
Steve Odyuo, convenor of the committee and founder of Natural Nagas, an organisation working for wildlife and environmental conservation, informed that the committee was constituted during a Lotha Hoho general meeting held at Maratchü Council Hall on August 12, 2025, to study environmental issues and concerns in Wokha district. He said the committee brings together experts from different fields to examine challenges, identify local concerns and explore opportunities for conservation and sustainable development.
Odyuo stated that the four day tour would serve as a preliminary exercise, with teams formed according to their expertise to visit different parts of the district. He added that the study aims to develop a better understanding of environmental conditions across Wokha and identify issues requiring attention for the benefit of local communities.
Flagging off the tour, Er. Mhondamo Ovung encouraged the committee members to carry out their responsibilities with dedication and wished them success in their efforts. He expressed hope that the study would help identify environmental concerns and contribute to the conservation and sustainable development of the district.
On the first day, the team visited Phiro village, where it interacted with villagers as part of its preliminary assessment to gain a better understanding of the area and local perspectives. Later, the team was hosted by Benri Ezung at his farmhouse in Chandalashung for the night.
The study tour is expected to provide valuable insights into the district’s environmental challenges and opportunities, laying the groundwork for future conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
