Lotha Language Day tobe observed on May 1

The Lotha Academy has decided to observe May 1st as Lotha Language Day that aims to celebrate the richness and beauty of Lotha language. A press release issued by president of Lotha Academy, Fr. Abraham Lotha informed that evaluating the overwhelming response to the Lotha Language Feast held on May 4, 2024 in Wokha, which was attended by more than a thousand people, the Academy officials saw the potential and positive impact such celebrations have on the people.

“In celebrating Lotha Language Day, our hope is that a good knowledge of the language will help improve communication skills, open avenues to a deeper understanding of Lotha culture and the world around us,” explained the release.

The directives from the Lotha Academy, encouraged Lotha Nagas all over the world – in homes, peer groups, educational institutions, churches, civil societies, etc. – to celebrate the day creatively through activities such as food, music, storytelling, language quiz, reading exercises, learning names of places, flowers, plants and trees, and other language learning and preservation activities on May 1.
