Loyem Memorial High School celebrates silver jubilee

Loyem Memorial High School (LMHS) one of the first education institutions in Tuensang district, Friday celebrated its silver jubilee at Eastern Villa (adjacent to the school campus) with former chief secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Alemtemshi recollected his association with Tuensang district especially his high school days at Tuensang Town. He also paid rich tribute to the people of Tuensang and asserted that the people of Tuensang are no less than anyone in the Nagaland.
In this regard, he pointed out that the Tuensang district with a pass percentage of 65 percent in the NBSE board exams was better than some of the “advanced districts”. He therefore encouraged the students saying the location of the school was not important, but how the students study and how they are taught matters.
Highlighting the need of value based education system in the society Alemtemshi said that education with values, without ethics, and without direction was meaningless.
He pointed out that education or opportunities for education are the same everywhere due to the advancement of science and technology, media and internet.
Alemtemshi further added that the students of Tuensang’s educational institutions are no less to any other students as evidenced by the records.
He also pointed out some eminent personalities like K Asangba Sangtam (former MP of Lok Shaba), late Imlong Chang (former Dobashi of Mokokchung) and social worker Chingmak Chang etc. to encourage the students that there are people from Tuensang who have made a mark and contributed hugely to the society.
In this connection, he urged the students to study hard, excel in their studies and lead the people of Tuensang and also of Nagaland in the days to come.
Earlier, parliamentary secretary NRE & E&FS, Toyang Changkong Chang, the proprietor of the school also spoke at the programme. He encouraged the teaching faculty, the students and the parents to rededicate themselves so that the students would become responsible citizens of the society.
Others who spoke at the programme were Tuensang deputy commissioner, Alemjongshi, ATPSA president, Reverend Fr. VV Johnson and president CCSU, Imti Choba Thungpang.  A minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect for the departed souls of the school.
The chief guest was also accorded a guard of honour by the 17th Alpha JD Troop NCC and Hauyang Pipe Band.
The chief guest was accompanied by his wife, former chief secretary, Banuo Z Jamir, officials of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang and Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union Mokokchung and others.
It may be noted that Loyem Memorial High School is one of the premier education institutions in Tuensang. The school currently has 478 enrolled students and has witnessed goo results over the past years. The school was upgraded to high school in 1993.
