Loyola Higher Secondary School hosts 54th annual sports meet

The 54th Annual Sports Meet of Loyola Higher Secondary School (LHSS) Kiphire was inaugurated on April 16 with vibrant participation and enthusiasm, under the theme “Victory through Effort.”
The event was graced by Special Guest Rajiv Sharma, Commandant of the 30th Battalion Assam Rifles, Kiphire, accompanied by his wife Shikha Satsangi.
The programme began with an invocation by Vice Principal Sr. Alice, followed by a welcome address from Rev. Fr. Philip, who highlighted the role of sports in instilling discipline and character among students. The meet was formally declared open with the unfurling of the flag by the Special Guest.
A drill display by students of Classes 5 to 7 added colour to the event, while the March Past—featuring Scouts and Guides, four houses, Class 12 students, and junior contingents—stood out as a key highlight, reflecting discipline and teamwork.
In his address, Sharma encouraged students to value hard work and perseverance. Stressing that success comes through consistent effort, he remarked that true winners are those who refuse to give up.
The programme was attended by Principal of St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator Rev. Fr. John Poji; Principal of St. John School, Kiusam Town Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu; members of St. Peter’s Church Council, alumni, School Managing Board, representatives of USSC and KASU, along with parents and well-wishers.
An exhibition tug-of-war match between Alumni and Parents versus Teachers, with participation from the Special Guest, added excitement to the occasion. Winners were later awarded medals.
The inaugural session concluded on a high note, setting the stage for a spirited series of sporting events in the days ahead.
