KOHIMA, SEP 18 (NPN): Lower PWD Youth Organisation (LPWDYO) under PWD Colony Ward 11 opened a mini gym for members and residents of the colony during a short programme on Friday.
Kühüpoyo Puro, first chairman of PWD Ward 11 and former chairman of LPWD, inaugurated the newly constructed gym.
Speaking on the occasion, Puro said the colony had come together as families and a community, supporting one another through the years. Referring to the biblical teaching of loving one’s neighbours as oneself, he said he had witnessed its fulfilment during his more than 37 years of residing in the colony.
He recalled that during his tenure as chairman, the colony had faced various problems, but the unity among its members had enabled them to overcome the challenges collectively. He urged the members to continue loving and supporting one another as part of one family.
Puro also emphasised the importance of maintaining good health, saying that with advancing age he had realised that even if a person had nothing at home, good health was priceless. He said physical health was closely connected with mental wellbeing and that illness could also affect a person’s mental state. He cited doctors and church workers as examples, saying that some doctors often focused on their patients while neglecting their own wellbeing, eventually affecting their health. Similarly, he said church workers often gave their best in serving others while neglecting their own health.
Puro also acknowledged the selfless service rendered by the colony council, saying that its members served the people without expecting anything in return. He prayed that the “good Lord” would bless them for their service.
Colony chairman Dziesevituo Angami said the youths were the “hands and feet” of the colony and the group capable of putting into action the plans and policies of the colony. He expressed hope that the youths would continue to uphold their responsibilities and contribute towards the progress of the colony.
Women president Visasünuo Khruomo expressed gratitude to the youths for coming up with the initiative, saying the achievement was an indication of good leadership. She said the youths had consistently assisted the colony in addressing various areas of need over the years.
Youth president Swedevi Rhetso said funds for the gym equipment were initially raised through a raffle draw, but the amount generated was insufficient. The organisation subsequently explored other avenues to complete the project.
Rhetso said the initiative eventually received support from members of the colony, with individuals coming forward to donate materials as well as financial assistance towards completing the mini gym. He expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the project.
He said there was scope for further upgrading the facility and invited anyone willing to contribute towards its development to come forward. He added that the gym had been opened for the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals and would be accessible to everyone willing to work out.
The programme was chaired by the colony’s information and publicity secretary, Renchamo Anongo. Invocation was pronounced by Nohovono Rhetso, while a special number was presented by Vevotalü Khesoh.
A short speech was also delivered by president of Middle PWD Youth Organisation, Er Kikovozo Tetso.
